The Economic Barometer analyses the main developments in the economic activity and the labour market of the Brussels-Capital Region, based on the most recent economic indicators for Brussels.

What stands out in this latest edition?

In the first half of 2019, economic activity in Brussels appeared to be relatively dynamic. All sectors of activity contributed to this growth, with an increase in their turnover. Those good results are mitigated by unfavourable economic circumstances that suggest there will be an economic slowdown in the second half of 2019. The situation is also mixed in terms of business demographics and bankruptcies. Employment in Brussels could slightly run out of steam during the course of 2019, given the declining corporate hiring forecasts and a contraction in the number of hours worked in temporary work. Finally, unemployment continues to decline but at a slower pace than before.
