In 2019, what proportion of the population of the municipality of Ixelles held French nationality?

Brussels Institute for Statistics and Analysis (BISA) - Did you know? - 22/04/2020

Answer: 13.05%

On the 1st of January 2019, 13.05% of the inhabitants of the municipality of Ixelles were of French as opposed to Belgian nationality. This is more than double the Brussels regional average of 5.31%. The municipalities of Uccle and Saint-Gilles had 11.52% and 10.75% French citizens respectively.

Since 2006, the French have been the largest foreign community in the Brussels-Capital Region, now way ahead of Moroccan nationals.

On the 1st of January 2019, there were nearly 64,000 French nationals, i.e. more than 5% of the total population, living in the Brussels-Capital Region. Moreover, their number has doubled in the last 20 years.

The French population is not evenly spread across the Brussels-Capital Region. Overall, there are proportionally fewer of them west of the Canal and in the north of the Region and there is a clear over-representation in the south-eastern quadrant, particularly along the south-central axis.
