How many tons of food waste did Net Brussel collect in 2016?

Brussels Institute for Statistics and Analysis (BISA) - Did you know? - 14/11/2017

Answer: 1,666 ton

In 2016, Net Brussel collected 1,666 ton worth of food waste. In 2015, this figure stood at 826 ton and in 2014 at a mere 535 ton. The increase can be explained by the additional number of municipalities that signed up to Net Brussel’s BE Organic project during 2015 and 2016.

The figures for 2017 are expected to rise even further now that the orange bin bags project has been rolled out right throughout the Brussels Region. The use of these bin bags has not been made compulsory however.

Further information can be found in the tables on waste on our website.
